Answering Moroccan Atlas Needs

AMAN is an Irish registered trust designed to promote, support and assist with the health & educational needs of remote Berber villages in the Moroccan High Atlas mountains.

Up to recently, the people living in these villages with very poor vehicular access have had no way to get to a hospital. This means that simple injuries cannot be treated resulting in permanent long term disabilities.

Complications arising from difficulties during childbirth have often resulted in tragic outcomes and as in the case of a recent accident involving a minibus that overturned, it was seven hours before the injured passengers could get to an outlying hospital for any medical care.

In order to improve this situation our current project has been to purchase and equip an ambulance that will be stationed up in a strategic village where we have developed a trusting relationship. We secured a Nissan Patrol 4x4 vehicle and we have just kitted it out! Funds were sourced from a combination of donor charities and individuals gifting to us. On-going funding for the running and upkeep of the ambulance will be, God-willing, met similarly.

We have the full support of the local health authorities. The ambulance will be crewed by local men who we have done some initial training with and with whom we will continue to provide on-going training and instruction.
